Why Lawn Mowing Matters
Most people think mowing is simple — start the mower, go in lines, done. But the difference between a pro mow and an amateur one is huge, and it compounds over a season. Mowing height matters more than almost anything else you do for your lawn. Cut too short and you stress the grass, expose soil to weed seeds, and dry out the root zone. Cut too tall too long and the next mow becomes a scalp job because of the one-third rule. The right height for Central NJ summer is 3.5-4 inches — and most homeowners are an inch shorter than they should be without realizing it.
Beyond height, blade sharpness matters enormously. Dull blades tear grass instead of cutting it, leaving a brown-tinted lawn surface and creating open wounds that invite disease. Mowing pattern rotation prevents wheel rutting and keeps grass standing upright. Trimmer work around obstacles makes the difference between a property that looks finished and one that looks rushed. Walkway and driveway blow-off — small detail, huge visual impact. Skip any of these and the lawn slowly degrades over years in ways most homeowners can't quite name but absolutely notice.
What's Included
Our Process
Here's exactly what happens on a typical weekly mowing visit. We arrive at roughly the same time on your scheduled day. The crew walks the property quickly to identify any debris, branches, or new obstacles. Mowing starts with the perimeter cut for clean boundary stripes, then moves inward with the alternating pattern. While one crew member is on the zero-turn, the other handles string-trimming around all obstacles — trees, fence lines, beds, walkways, mailbox bases. After mowing, full blow-off of every hard surface (driveway, walkway, patio, deck), plus any clippings on garden beds get blown back into the lawn. The whole visit typically takes 25-60 minutes depending on lot size. You don't need to be home — most clients aren't. If anything looks off (drainage issue, dead patch, pest activity), we'll text you with a photo so you know what we noticed.
Pricing & What to Expect
Pricing depends on lot size, obstacles, and frequency. Most quarter-acre Central NJ lots run $45-$65 per visit; half-acre lots typically $65-$95; larger acreage prices by actual mowable square footage and time required. Weekly is the standard schedule April through October — bi-weekly works in cooler shoulder months but tends to require longer cuts that are harder on the lawn. Existing Gutter Bandits customers get bundle pricing on weekly mowing — typically a 10-15% discount when paired with seasonal gutter service. We give free on-site estimates, no commitment required. The walkthrough takes 10 minutes and you'll have a real number, not a range.
Ready to Book?
Weekly mowing is the workhorse of your yard schedule and the foundation everything else builds on. A consistently well-mowed lawn is denser, healthier, and more resistant to weeds, drought stress, and disease — which means less work everywhere else. Bundle it with our spring cleanup, fall cleanup, and snow removal for full year-round coverage, or just book the mowing and handle the rest yourself. Whatever fits. We're available across Freehold, Manalapan, Marlboro, Monroe, East Brunswick, Old Bridge, Jackson, Howell, and surrounding Central NJ towns. Free estimates always.
